Where Do You Go………………………………….

Over the years, work places have changed drastically and so have the Human Resources. As the employee continue hoping from one organisation to another at the drop of a hat for more lucrative deals, the talent war intensifies. In such situations, counter-offers from the employer in order to retain a skilled employee have become a common practice. These offers more than often put the employee in a fix-to stay or leave. Nevertheless, the surveys have found that employees who accepted the counter-offer regretted their decision and 93 percent made a sombre exit within 18 months.

To Move out or Move in

Dealing with a counter-offer is not an easy task. If you decide to stay then you should be ready for more not-so-pleasant surprises which your employer would spring up now and then to justify his decision to retain you on your conditions. The truth is that no one wants to leave the familiar surroundings but then the grass on the other side always seems greener. Once an employee expresses a will to resign, the manager or HR should facilitate the search for alternate oppurtunities elsewhere in the organisation in order to suit his concern. Any organisation would like to retain its existing employee because of the set of skills he/she possesses and his/her past performance records.

Not Always a Good Choice

Unfortunately not many come out as winners once they accept the counter-offer. This is because if an employee decides to stay, his loyalty would be under scan and he should be ready for some tough time ahead. I believe that this practice does not work for either party. For the employee, it permanently brands him/her as someone who is primarily motivated by money. For the organisation, the impact is even worse, as the organisation will be seen to be reinforcing an employee’s behaviour which they would not want to have.

Dating Syndrome

But there is another breed of employees who constantly suffer from what is called the Dating Syndrome. They are like a young lad who wants to date many girls at one just time to find out the perfect one. Similarly many employees, just to find out who can best match them in terms of salary and other benefits, approach many potential employers to strike the best deal. But beware!!! If the potential employer finds out, you’ll surely be on their BLACK LIST!!!!!!!
