Why Exercise Must Be A Delicious Part Of Your Diet
Category: Health and FitnessOk here is the next very important idea I want to impress on you. Your exercise habit is a critically important part of your diet. If you are embarking on any diet plan, without creating an exercise habit, you are not serious about your diet or about losing weight in my humble opinion. Please feel free to prove me wrong, but let me explain.
You have heard it repeated a thousand times that most people who go on a diet eventually gain all the weight back, and more. You have heard about countless government studies which state that most people who go on a diet fail. (Though I try not to pay too much attention to these reports).
While there can be many reasons why someone might not initially succeed in reaching their weight loss goals, allow me to offer one possible explanation.
First, if you make a decision to begin a new diet, (I don’t care which one) and you do not make a commitment to working your body, then your diet decision is probably not a serious one. What you are really saying is this. Well I wouldn’t mind losing weight if I don’t really have to put out any effort, and if the food taste good, and if I don’t really have to try that hard, and if I don’t get sidetracked. You are subconsciously telling yourself right from the start that you are not really serious, and it’s OK if you fail. Basically you are telling yourself that you would like to lose weight as long as it is easy.
This truly is not much different than the person who buys an exercise machine hoping that they will lose weight without much effort. After all, the commercial says you can effortlessly burn calories and lose weight with their machine, right?
There is another scenario which I believe causes people to fail. They begin their diet along with an exercise program, which is great. However, the problem is they started a running program, or they joined a gym, or they bought an exercise machine. But, they never develop an exercise habit. Or, they honestly don’t make it to the gym once or twice and the whole thing starts to fall apart. The same thing occurs with their running program. They stick to if for a few days or weeks, but they get physically sidetracked once or twice and their workout commitment comes crashing down along with their diet commitment.
A simple at home workout program is one of the easiest programs to stick to in my opinion! If you do one set of 10 pushups a day, you are sticking to your exercise plan, and you will succeed, (because you are developing an exercise habit). I would rather see you do a handful of pushups every day week after week, than to start a running program only to give it up after your first or second run. Succeeding with your simple home workout will undoubtedly help you succeed with your dieting efforts.
There seems to be plenty of healthy competition between diet companies who just offer you their diet, and exercise equipment companies who just offer you their exercise equipment. Often one will say that you don’t need the other. While I am sure some people do in fact lose weight by strictly dieting, I think it is rare. And, it is probably even rarer that they succeed long term. So begin to think of your exercise as a part of your diet.
There are more reasons why developing an exercise habit is going to make any dieting endeavors easier, and more successful. Look for these in a future article.
