Colorful Landscapes - A Blockbuster Event For Wildlife

The beauty of your garden doesn’t have to stop with the plant
life itself. The animals that the plants attract can be just as
beautiful. Colorful and attractive hummingbirds and butterflies
are amazing animals that add a wonderful natural element to a
landscape. Hummingbirds are unique in that they are one of the
fastest flying birds. In contrast, butterflies move slowly so you
can even hold them to admire their wonderful colors.

A simple way to attract hummingbirds is through hummingbird
feeders. A feeder can be hung from a tree branch or on a
cane-shaped pole in your garden. The most interesting way to
attract hummingbirds, however, is to choose flowers that they
naturally enjoy. Both the flowers, and the birds feeding from
the flowers, will be very beautiful.

There are a wide variety of flowers that hummingbirds enjoy. In
zones 2-8, Red Columbine is a great option. They bloom early, so
the color of their blooms will attract hummingbirds soon after
winter has ended.

The next option, thriving between zones 2-9, is Delphiniums.
They can grow up to five feet tall, so they are best used near
the back of the garden or close to the house. These flowers come
in a variety of colors.

It is not a problem for hummingbirds and butterflies to live in
the same place. To attract butterflies, you can plant a verbena
bush, hang a fuchsia, or plant butterfly bushes.

Marigolds are another great way to attract butterflies. They
produce great butterfly nectar in their flowers and the colors
will look great in your garden. Sunflowers are another option.
In addition, the sunflower seeds can be used to attract more
wildlife such as squirrels or other birds.

You can choose specific flowers to attract certain species of
butterflies. The flowers must be native to your area, however.
Monarchs are attracted to Rabbitbrush and Canada Thistle.
Swallowtails like Geraniums and Lilacs. Queen butterflies flock
to daisies. Many different species like Gray Hairstreak.

You shouldn’t use insecticides if you plan on attracting
butterflies, as the chemicals will not only harm the bugs that
are pests, but will harm the butterflies as well. Colorful flowers and vines like the
passion fruit vine are nice additions to the landscape.

Butterflies also tend to like common wildflowers such as
Dandelions. It can be dangerous to use these to attract them,
however, since the rapid spreading of the seeds causes massive
numbers of flowers to grow. Some weeds also attract butterflies,
but can also grow out of control.

The more life in your garden, the more interesting it will be.
Adding plenty of plants that will attract other animals will
surely be a pleasure to view.

Bright colorful flowers can attract wildlife to your back yard. The exotic looking
passion fruit vine
is sure to draw attention from guest as they drop by for a visit.
